When most people hear the word ‘nutritionist’, I think their minds run to ‘weight loss’. It’s as if they are one and the same – “You’re a nutritionist, you help people lose weight.”

Can I help you lose weight?

I can – and I can’t – or I can, but with certain limitations. I want to explain in this post what I CAN do for weight loss, and what I CAN’T do. That way you can know if asking me to help is what you need or if you need a different approach.

The problem we have

A national crisis is looming as our population becomes wider and heavier and succumbs to chronic diseases younger and younger, in many ways as a result of this increasing weight. I see the need for dedicated individuals to help with what is foremost in many people’s minds.

It takes real conscious effort to live in our world and reach and remain a normal weight long term. I really understand this. I’ve learned a great deal on my own journey through many children and into my 50s’, and have spent considerable time studying the whys and hows of weight loss in my nutrition training.

However, I am not currently well set up to work with all types of weight loss clients. I’ll describe that below.

What most people need for weight loss

What many many (but not all) people actually need in order to get off stubborn weight and keep it off is a

  • a clear day to day plan – exactly what to eat for a week, plus
  • a community of people to be accountable to
  • with day to day support.
Community support can really help weight loss

This is what I am NOT set up to offer. I’ll be upfront with you on this.

If you need this level of support

I have a health-colleague who focusses entirely on weight loss AND uses a healthy diet to do so. Her diet-style is not unlike the type of diets I put together, based on science and health. She rushes people into a super healthy diet plan immediately for 6 weeks, and offers day-to-day accountability and community with others on the same journey. If this interests you, I can send you the details to join her programme.

What I can do for you now

Here is what I can do for you NOW if you need to lose weight:

  • I can give you some help for free. Get my free Weight Loss tips guide on this page. Use these tips for 4 – 6 weeks. These are especially geared towards over 40s. They are timeless and they work – I use every one of them every day.
  • Feel free to book an appointment with me if you would like some feedback on how you are tracking with these free tips. 45 mins is fine for the first appointment if it’s weight loss only. I can help you identify any blind spots.
  • If you prefer my more hands-OFF approach, and like having freedom to plan meals instead of having set meal plans (which my friend would be doing with you), plan to come in to see me in the clinic for 1 x 30 minute appointments a month – and plan on keeping that up for 6 months, a year – or as long as you need. At this short appointment, I hold you accountable to what you were working on, encourage you to get back on track when you stray, and also introduce, little by little, the vital habits necessary for long-term, lifelong weight maintenance. I want you to learn all the habits slim people do automatically. As you can see, there is time involved with this, but it can also be really successful for some people.

Certain people can lose weight just fine with my more instructional type of weight loss with just a little accountability. And other people need more hands-on day-to-day attention.

Quicker weight loss

I’m not against quick (healthy) weight loss – but I just don’t have the time to devote to leading you through it. There are others in the health world who are killing it with very quick AND very healthy weight loss which will also last longer term – but I can tell you, you have to turn your life upside down and inside out and do the very hard, dedicated work to achieve it. It takes a lot of intensive time and isn’t cheap either.

Fast, healthy and long term weight loss is HARD work.

I can point you in the right direction if this is the sort of healthy programme you are looking for.

Other quick weight loss plans

There are several popular but unhealthy methods for quick weight loss, but I can’t ethically recommend these methods. They tend to be unsuccessful for longterm (past 18 months) weight loss at any rate, but it’s more the health aspect I am concerned about. You can read more <here> about why some of these unhealthy weight loss programmes cause rapid weight loss in the short term – and why weight rebounds later on <here>.

What’s best for you?

Right now you may feel one approach would be better for you than the other.

I wish you the best of success with your efforts. And I hope you get something good out of the free guide.
