When I met Ron, he was thin, tired and suffering from autoimmune hyperthyroidism, or Grave’s disease.  He was highly medicated and had heart palpitations.

Overactive thyroid is a disease that rarely responds to dietary change unless the patient shows great commitment at every point of the diet. Ron made a quality decision to give healing all he had. Initially, Ron’s energy levels soared which was extremely encouraging for him, but then that improvement plateaued, and we had to make more lifestyle and diet changes until it improved again.

Before reducing his medication, overseen by his doctor, we had to make sure Ron’s nutrient levels were very high by paying very close attention to his diet. Otherwise a patient can go into what is called ‘thyroid storm’ which is a very dangerous condition.  He took particular nutritional supplements through the tapering down stage in order to avoid this scenario.   Gradually his Carbimazole dosage went down and down and down – till he was only on a tiny amount.  We were both so excited to see how a body could spring back after so long with a debilitating, supposedly irreversible, condition.

It had taken over a year, but at the end of our time, Ron had a new lease on life and began a new career which had previously appeared out of reach because of his illness.
